The shift in opinion about phone payment security

As time has passed, it seems more and more mobile users are open to use their mobiles to buy products/services via sms or a timed phone call. At the moment its mostly dating and news services cpsms (cost per sms) which mobile users subscribe to, happy to pay their normal sms charge or sometimes more for up-to-date data, news and interaction.

But now there are more internet webmasters who are giving the phone option as a method of payment, where you use your mobile to send an sms or make a timed phone call to pay for the products/services they sell/offer. The most infamous one at the moment is probably rapidshare.de which allows you to create a 2-3 day account for a fee which you can pay by call or by text.

A huge number of users use their trial account which they paid by phone which ofcourse makes them a great deal of profit. This method has so many advantages which makes me wonder why other sites dont use such payment methods. For example, you dont need a credit card to purchase a good, the chance of a back charge is very low and fraud via calls compared to fraud via cards is considerably lower so the seller is safer against chargebacks, its easier to purchase from another country. However there are some setbacks to this too, some networks ban certain premium numbers, some networks impose a maximum charge per phone transaction/sms. Ofcourse there is alot more pros and cons to this but i think at the end of the day the pros outweigh the cons.

I'm personally a firm believer the mobile 2 net market is just beginning, it has a long bright future and sms payments will soon take off, specially as payment processors like paypal are integrating more with mobiles, its not going to take long when you can buy hosting, domain names and much more just by sms.
